Ghana opens 5G licensing round

Ghana has initiated the bidding process for 5G licenses to enhance telecom sector competition, with 11 lots totaling $230 million. MTN and Telecel, which dominate 95% of mobile internet users, are among the interested bidders, though MTN faces a 40% premium. Next Gen Infraco's 2024 exclusive 5G rights were amended to foster competition, and mobile internet penetration in Ghana now exceeds 90%.
