Boris Nadezhdin, a critic of Russia's military action in Ukraine, was convicted of displaying extremist symbols for showing a picture of Alexei Navalny in a 2023 interview. The conviction bars him from the 2024 parliamentary campaign, and he was also designated a foreign agent. Ilya Remeslo, another Putin critic, was arrested on charges of spreading false information about the Russian military.
