DOJ sues Maryland over in-state tuition for immigrants
The Justice Department sued Maryland over its in-state tuition program for immigrant students, arguing it violates federal law (8 U.S. Code Section 1623) by providing benefits to undocumented immigrants. The lawsuit, the 13th of its kind, seeks to block the program, which costs taxpayers around $9 million annually, and was filed in a federal court presided over by Judge Stephanie Gallagher.
