Meet Ume: Minnesota Zoo’s 1-year-old tapir ready to meet visitors

The Minnesota Zoo announced that Ume, a 1-year-old Malayan tapir born at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Washington, has made her public debut at the Tropics Trail. The zoo highlighted Ume's role in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, which aims to conserve endangered species like the Malayan tapir, with fewer than 2,500 remaining in the wild. Visitors can currently only access indoor exhibits due to hazardous air quality.
