From the archives: Pat Oliphant and the art of political cartoons

Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Pat Oliphant, whose political cartoons were syndicated in as many as 500 publications worldwide, died on July 13, 2026, at age 90. In a 2000 interview, he discussed caricature, censorship, and the influence of 19th-century French cartoonist Honoré Daumier, whose work led to restricted press freedom in France in 1835.
