Trump presses ICE to continue traffic stops despite fatal shootings
President Donald Trump directed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to resume traffic stops after a one-day pause following the fatal shootings of two immigrants during vehicle stops in Texas and Maine. The Department of Homeland Security had temporarily halted vehicle-related enforcement after 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston and 25-year-old Johan Sebastián in Biddeford, Maine, were shot and killed by ICE officers. Maine’s Senator Susan Collins and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus called for investigations and policy changes.
