Amazon to launch its satellite internet in South Africa, seemingly beating out Musk in his homeland
Amazon announced it will launch its satellite internet service Amazon Leo in South Africa in 2027 through a partnership with Herotel, marking its first satellite internet agreement in Africa. The move precedes Elon Musk's Starlink from launching there due to South African regulations requiring minority shares for Black or non-white owners, which Musk criticized as racist. The South African government supported Amazon's deal.
