Dem lawmaker says Constitution barred police from stopping her after alleged 100 mph speeding
A New Hampshire lawmaker, Ellen Read, argues that a 1784 provision of the state constitution barred police from stopping her while traveling to or from legislative sessions, following two alleged speeding incidents in 2024 and 2025. Read claims the constitution protects lawmakers from arrest during such travel but does not exempt them from prosecution.
