East Bay teen swims North Channel from Ireland to Scotland

Maya Merhige, an 18-year-old marathon swimmer from Berkeley, successfully swam the 21.4-mile North Channel from Ireland to Scotland on July 8 in 12 hours, 19 minutes, and 37 seconds. Her achievement is part of her effort to become one of the youngest swimmers to complete the 'Oceans Seven'.
