Detroit students canvass to ask voters to support Proposal S

Detroit students and volunteers with 482Forward are canvassing to gain voter support for Proposal S, which would authorize an operating millage for Detroit Public Schools Community District. The measure aims to avoid an $111 million deficit by allowing the district to collect a 18-mill tax on businesses and rental properties, which they will need to manage after the district’s historic debt is paid off in September.
