That’s not sargassum on a Nayarit beach, but Hypnea, a safer lookalike
A brown algae covering a Nayarit beach was initially mistaken for harmful sargassum but identified as Hypnea, a non-toxic macroalgae. Researchers from the Autonomous University of Nayarit clarified that Hypnea, linked to seasonal ocean changes, poses no health risks unlike sargassum, which has severely impacted Quintana Roo.
