Protecting yourself against alpha-gal syndrome

Alpha-gal syndrome is a condition triggered by tick bites, causing an allergic reaction to alpha-gal sugar found in mammalian tissues. Symptoms include hives, nausea, and vomiting, with delayed onset complicating diagnosis. The Lone Star Tick is the primary carrier in the U.S., but other ticks like the blacklegged tick can also cause the syndrome.
