Many Students Listen to Music To Focus and Stay Motivated While They Study – But It Doesn’t Always Help
A study of 163 college students found that listening to music while studying can both help and hinder focus and motivation, depending on factors like task difficulty, music type (e.g., instrumental vs. lyrical), and individual attention spans. While 67% used music to improve focus and 75% for motivation, students reported that distracting lyrics or fast, loud music often interfered with concentration.
