Utility watchdog warns of rising water rates as regulators consider requests
Illinois customers may face higher water and sewage bills as Illinois American Water and Aqua Illinois seek rate increases of $142 million and $26.5 million, respectively. The Illinois Commerce Commission is also evaluating a proposed merger between the utilities’ parent companies, American Water and Essential Utilities, which the Citizens Utility Board warns could lead to market consolidation and worsen service issues.
