Garbage truck hits gas main, causing residents in Southfield apartment complex to evacuate

Residents at a senior living apartment complex in Southfield were evacuated after a garbage truck hit a gas main. Southfield Fire Chief Joey Thorington stated the incident occurred at Highland Towers on July 8 at 8:30 a.m., and gas could not be shut off, prompting evacuations. School buses were provided by Southfield Public Schools to help residents stay cool during the incident.
