Senegal: Institut Pasteur de Dakar Sequences the First Human Whole Genomes in the Country and Launches an Early Cancer Detection Platform

Institut Pasteur de Dakar has sequenced the first 40 human whole genomes in Senegal using Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies. The institution launched a clinical laboratory and bioinformatics platform for testing early-onset breast cancer predisposition and rare heritable gene changes. A multidisciplinary research program integrating genomics, infectious diseases, and environmental factors aims to address cancer's growing burden in Senegal and Africa.
