Turkey, Australia to push for global electrification goal at UN climate summit

Turkey and Australia, co-hosts of COP31, are advocating for a global target to electrify 35% of energy use by 2035 to reduce fossil fuel dependence and stabilize energy costs. The initiative, supported by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), aims to complement existing climate goals like tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030. Additional targets include halving global waste and improving building energy efficiency by 25% by 2035.
