US Senate blocks Trump’s SAVE America Act, thwarting restrictions on voting
The U.S. Senate rejected an amendment to incorporate the SAVE America Act into an immigration bill, with a 48-50 vote. The act, supported by President Donald Trump, would require voters to provide citizenship documents and photo ID, and restrict voter registration methods. Some Republican senators, including Susan Collins and Mitch McConnell, joined Democrats in opposing the measure, citing concerns about disenfranchising voters.
