Former Newark Deputy Mayor and Director of the Newark Department of Economic and Housing Development Sentenced to Prison for Scheming to Obtain Bribes

Carmelo Garcia, a former Newark Deputy Mayor and Director of the Newark Department of Economic and Housing Development, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison followed by three years of supervised release for participating in a corrupt scheme to obtain bribes and kickbacks from two Newark business owners.
