New York City has opened applications for its free 2-K childcare program for 2-year-olds, part of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s affordability initiative. The program will start with 2,000 seats in September 2024, expand to 12,000 next year, and is funded by state commitments totaling $498 million over two years.
