Albany budget deal gives Mamdani 2-year mayoral control extension, boosts funding for needy students

Mayor Zohran Mamdani's control of New York City's public schools is extended for two years through June 2028, and the state will provide $143 million more in funding for homeless students, those in foster care, and English language learners.
