EV imports to Africa from China surged in 2025

African countries imported over 44,000 electric vehicles from China in 2025, more than doubling the 19,000 imported in 2024, driven by energy security concerns and fuel import risks. Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa are leading the EV adoption push, with private owners saving significantly on energy costs compared to traditional fuel expenses.
