Hotter 2026 and El Nino could trigger extreme fires

Over 150 million hectares of land burned globally in the first months of 2026, more than twice the size of Texas. A supercharged El Niño pattern is expected in the second half of 2026, which could significantly worsen fire conditions and lead to even more extreme wildfires.
