Argentina in spotlight over hantavirus as authorities retrace footsteps of ship’s passengers
Argentina is dealing with a hantavirus outbreak, with scientists warning that global heating could increase exposure to the virus, which has been documented to spread through person-to-person transmission in rural communities in Patagonia. The first person-to-person transmission was recorded 30 years ago, and another outbreak nearly a decade ago resulted in 11 deaths. The virus was previously known to spread only through contact with rodents.
