Romance scammers turn sweet talk into £102M payday

Romance scammers in the UK have made £102 million from their victims last year, with an average loss of £9,500 per scam. The City of London Police reported a 29% increase in romance scam reports in 2025. Older victims were disproportionately affected, with almost half of total losses coming from those aged 55-74.
