The Importance of the Battle of Savo Island

On August 9, 1942, an Allied fleet of 17 warships faced a Japanese force near Guadalcanal despite superior numbers, newer ships, and radar technology. The battle lasted 33 minutes and demonstrated that numerical and technological advantage does not guarantee victory in warfare.
