8 crested ibises released in Japan decades after extinction
Eight crested ibises were released into the wild in Japan's Hakui city after being bred in a conservation program on Sado Island. The birds, extinct in Japan since the 1970s, were supported by China's breeding efforts, and their release is seen as a positive sign for the Noto region recovering from the 2024 earthquake.
