Japan to scour social media in hunt for visa overstayers, illegal foreign workers

Japan’s immigration authorities plan to monitor social media and other platforms to identify visa overstayers and illegal foreign workers, aiming to reduce their numbers amid increased foreign labor influx due to domestic shortages. The Immigration Services Agency will deploy analytical tools as early as next year to track online activity related to unauthorized work.
