Solar drone with jumbo jet wingspan broke a flight record—then it crashed

A solar-powered drone, Solar Impulse 2, broke a flight record with an eight-day flight before crashing at sea. The drone had a 236-foot wingspan and was powered by over 17,000 solar cells. It was being tested for maritime patrol missions with the US military.
