Florida shutting down ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ immigration detention center

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the closure of the state's immigration detention facility, known as 'Alligator Alcatraz', which was intended to be temporary. The facility was opened in summer 2025 due to federal government resource constraints. Its closure is a result of changed circumstances.
