Amazon devices chief says a new smartphone is “just not the goal”

Amazon is not developing a new smartphone, according to Amazon's head of devices and services, Panos Panay. The company previously tried selling a smartphone in 2014, but it was discontinued due to poor sales. Amazon explored using Alexa as an operating system for the phone, codenamed Transformer.
