Scientists stunned as volcano cloud destroys methane in the atmosphere

A colossal underwater volcano in the South Pacific may have revealed a new weapon against climate change by destroying methane in the atmosphere. The eruption of Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha’apai created reactive chlorine particles that cleaned up some of the methane released.
