Newsom's 'Golden State Start' promises 400 free diapers per baby as California grapples with budget woes

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a new program called 'Golden State Start' which will provide 400 free diapers to families with newborn babies, in an effort to ease the high cost of raising a child. The program is being launched in partnership with nonprofit Baby2Baby and will start this summer. The state has allocated $7.4 million for the initiative.
