Ruby inventor Matz working on native compiler with AI help

Yukihiro Matsumoto, also known as Matz, is developing Spinel, a native compiler for Ruby with assistance from Anthropic's Claude Code, which can compile Ruby code into a native executable, resulting in significant performance improvements. The project is experimental and currently supports only a subset of Ruby features. Spinel has the potential to optimize Ruby code, especially for helper functions.
