Warning issued for recreational mussels along California coast

Los Angeles County public health officials have issued a warning against consuming recreationally harvested mussels along the California coast due to elevated naturally occurring toxins that can cause serious illness. Commercial shellfish from approved sources remain unaffected, and a mussel quarantine order is in effect from May 1 through October.
